You just left your brow lamination appointment and your brows look absolutely flawless. Fluffy, feathered, perfectly shaped. You're obsessed.
Now comes the part that keeps them looking that way: aftercare.
Brow lamination aftercare is actually super easy. But there are a few critical dos and don'ts that make the difference between brows that stay perfect for 4-6 weeks and brows that fall flat after 2 weeks.
Here is how to exactly how to care for your newly laminated brows.
The First 24 Hours: The Most Critical Time
Your brows just went through a chemical process that restructured the hair. During the first 24 hours, the solution is still setting, and the structure needs time to fully stabilize.
What You CANNOT Do in the First 24 Hours:
❌ NO WATER- steam is really the culprit
This is non-negotiable. Avoid:
- Washing your face
- Shower water splashing on your brows
- Sweating
- Steam (sauna, hot shower, humid environments)
- Swimming
- Hot tubs
- Any moisture on your brows
Why? Water interrupts the setting process. If water gets on your brows during this time, it can loosen the laminated structure and your brows won't stay fluffy.
If you need to wash your face, use a dry cleanser, micellar water on a cotton pad (away from your brows), or baby wipes. Just keep your brows completely dry.
❌ NO MAKEUP ON YOUR BROWS
Resist the urge to fill in or enhance your newly laminated brows with makeup. Let them just be. No eyebrow pencil, no powder, no pomade, nothing.
Your brows already look perfect. Makeup can interfere with the setting process.
❌ NO TOUCHING, BRUSHING, OR PICKING
I know it's tempting to touch your brows or brush them to see how they look. Don't. Let them stay exactly as your lash artist shaped them. Any touching or manipulating can disrupt the structure.
❌ NO AGGRESSIVE RUBBING
When you pat your face dry or touch your skin, be extra gentle around your brows. No rubbing, no aggressive washing, no rough movements.
❌ NO INTENSE EXERCISE
Avoid heavy sweating during the first 24 hours. This means:
- No gym workouts
- No hot yoga
- No running
- No HIIT classes
- Nothing that makes you sweat around your face
Light walking? Fine. Intense cardio? Save it for tomorrow.
What You CAN Do:
✓ Use oil-free moisturizer on the rest of your face (just avoid your brows)
✓ Use sunscreen on your face (avoid your brow area or use a stick sunscreen)
✓ Use a dry shampoo if your hair needs freshening
✓ Sleep normally (just don't sleep face-down on your brow)
✓ Go about your day (just keep your brows dry)
After 24 Hours: Now You Can Be a Little More Normal
Once the first 24 hours are up, the brow structure is mostly set. You can resume more normal activities, but you still need to be thoughtful.
Days 2-7: Maintenance Mode
Gentle Cleansing
You can now shower normally, but:
- Use lukewarm water (not hot)
- Avoid direct water spray on your brows
- Pat your face dry very gently
- Don't rub or scrub your brow area
- Gentle Brushing
After day 1, you can lightly brush your brows with a clean spoolie to maintain the shape. But:
- Use gentle strokes only
- Brush in the direction your lash artist shaped them
- Don't over-brush or manipulate the shape
- Once a day is plenty
- Products to Use
- Lash and brow oil
- Oil-free moisturizer on the rest of your face
- Gentle makeup products if you want to add subtle color (optional)
- Products to AVOID
- Oil-based makeup removers (olive oil, coconut oil, etc.)
- Heavy creams or serums on your brows
- Strong exfoliants or actives (retinol, acids) near your brows
- Waterproof mascara on your lashes (can transfer to brows)
Other Activities to Be Mindful Of
- Sweating: Light activity is fine now, but avoid extreme heat/sweating around your brows
- Saunas/steam rooms: Skip these for at least a week
- Swimming: Chlorine and salt water can be rough on fresh lamination. Wait a week or wear a swim cap and keep your head dry
- Hot yoga: The heat and humidity can relax the lamination prematurely
- Weeks 2-6: You're in the Clear
After a week, your brows are fully set. You can pretty much resume normal life, but here are some tips to extend the life of your lamination:
Maintain Your Shape
- Brush your brows gently every day in the direction they're shaped
- Use your lash and brow oil to keep them conditioned
- Avoid pulling or picking at the hairs
- Don't use an eyelash curler near your brows
- Protect From Sun
UV rays can fade the results and dry out the brow hairs. If you're spending time outside:
- Wear sunscreen on your forehead/brow area
- Wear a hat if possible
- Use sunglasses
- Avoid Harsh Products
Throughout the entire 4-6 week period:
- Skip harsh exfoliants on your face (they can be drying)
- Avoid very hot water when washing your face
- Don't use super drying products near your brows
- You Can Tint (If You Didn't Already)
If you didn't add brow tint during your lamination appointment, you can have it added now. Most of our clients do tint after 2-3 weeks because it looks even more dramatic with the fluffy laminated shape.
You Can Wax (If You Didn't Already)
Same thing—if you want to clean up the shape with a little wax, you can do that after a week or two.
What to Expect Over the 4-6 Weeks
Week 1: Peak fluff. Your brows look the most dramatic right now.
Week 2-3: Still looking great. Maybe very slightly less fluffy, but still noticeable.
Week 4-5: Still good! The lift is still there, but the feathered effect might be softening slightly.
Week 6: Starting to relax back to your natural brow hair direction, but still better than before lamination.
By week 6, it's time to book your next lamination if you want to maintain that fluffy look.
Troubleshooting: What If...
"My brows feel stiff or crunchy"
Totally normal for the first few days. This will soften up within a week as you brush them gently and use your brow oil.
"They got wet in the first 24 hours"
Don't panic. Your lamination might not be as perfect as it could be, but it's probably still fine. Just be extra careful with water for the rest of the week.
"They're starting to droop earlier than expected"
This usually means:
You're not brushing them daily
You've been sweating or exposing them to humidity too much
You're rubbing your face aggressively
You haven't been using conditioning products
Try daily brushing and using your brow oil, and they should perk back up a bit.
"I have a bald spot or the shape looks weird"
Sometimes individual hairs don't laminate evenly, or your natural brow pattern causes an uneven look. This is rare, but if it happens, contact your lash artist. We can do a touch-up or adjustment at your next appointment.
"One brow looks different than the other"
Brows naturally grow in different directions and at different densities. Lamination enhances what's already there, so if you had asymmetrical brows before, they might still be slightly asymmetrical. This is totally normal.
Pro Tips for Maximum Results
- Invest in a good spoolie - A quality eyebrow brush (not your fingers) helps maintain the shape
- Use brow oil daily - Conditioning keeps the hairs soft and extends the lamination life
- Brush before bed - A quick brush in the direction of the lamination helps it last longer
- Sleep on your back - If possible, this prevents brows from getting smashed
- Book your next appointment at week 4 - Don't wait until week 6. Get on the schedule early
- When to Schedule Your Next Lamination
Most people come back every 4-6 weeks to refresh their lamination. Some people go 6-8 weeks if their brows maintain the shape well.
At 614 Lash Bar, we recommend booking your next appointment around week 3-4 so you don't miss that window.
